“Just as a potter molds clay into a vessel, we have the power to shape our own lives. But like clay, we must be willing to let go of what no longer serves us and start anew."

Meet Eva DeFranco

Welcome to Sunny Lane Pottery. As i wind down my 40- year career as a lawyer and mediator, I am excited to delve into a creative journey of making one of a kind and functional clay pieces. These are all made with care and intention, designed to emit warmth and comfort for friends and neighbors to enjoy on an everyday basis.

I began throwing pots as a hobby when some of my dear friends bought me a potter’s wheel for my 40th birthday—over 20 years ago. This gift has continually sustained me --I have learned some things about throwing pots to be sure; but I have also learned much about life from the potter’s wheel. I have learned about staying present in the moment and surrendering to the process when I throw; I have felt the pure joy and a grounded connection to the earth while playing with clay; I have learned about letting go and the resilience of moving forward when things do not turn out as planned and I have regularly felt the harmony of both molding and yielding to clay as it is thrown. For me, the wheel has been a meditation practice and an outlet for creativity in an otherwise stressful and pinched professional world. As a largely self-taught potter, I am ready and excited to embark on this journey of learning, growth and creative expression. Friends and family who have loved the look and feel of my pottery have long encouraged me to make my pots more available.

I believe in the deeply perfect imperfection of one of a kind, hand thrown pieces—I think it is what makes them interesting and beautiful—much like all of us. I believe in the presence of mind and heart that can come from really enjoying simple everyday pleasures –like sipping morning coffee from a favorite hand- crafted mug. I believe that life is precious and short and we can give our best to others when we are all in-- pursuing our passions and curiosities. It is my absolute privilege to make pots with my own hands that people love. Thank you for supporting my passion and allowing me to share my love for the art of pottery with you.

The name, “Sunny Lane Pottery” is a tribute to my love for where I live—the peaceful and ever changing hills of Northwest, Ct and it is meant to signify the warmth and comfort that homemade pottery evokes. When I am not throwing, I am growing tomatoes, hiking with my golden retrievers, and spending time outside with the people I love most.
